“AI is going to be the most transformative technology we encounter in our generation, but it won’t reach its full potential unless we really have the workforce ready to embrace it and turbocharge it in a big way,” Swami Sivasubramanian, Amazon’s vice president of data and AI told the Wall Street Journal in an article that was published today.

“Amazon’s commitment to advancing the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) extends beyond the development of groundbreaking technologies; it encompasses a dedication to fostering a workforce equipped with the skills necessary to propel AI to its full potential,” he said.

In response to this need, Amazon has unveiled its “AI Ready” program, aimed at training two million individuals in artificial intelligence skills. This initiative underscores Amazon’s recognition of AI as a cornerstone of technological progress and its commitment to democratizing access to AI education.

Central to Amazon’s AI ecosystem is Amazon Q, a generative AI-powered assistant designed to streamline and enhance various aspects of development and business operations. Sivasubramanian emphasized Amazon LLM’s accuracy, advanced agent capabilities, and security features.

Since its initial introduction at Amazon’s re:Invent conference, Amazon Q now demonstrates notable gains for developers and business users. Sivasubramanian noted that early indications suggest a potential increase in employee productivity of over 80%.

Together with Amazon Q Business, came a preview of Amazon Q Developer. It was built to empower developers to focus more on coding by minimizing time spent on maintenance tasks, addressing a common pain point in the development process. Meanwhile, Amazon Q Business equips employees with a powerful tool to harness company data, enabling data-driven decision-making and enhancing overall efficiency.

Amazon Q now offers extended reach to Amazon QuickSight, AWS’s Business Intelligence (BI) service. It is augmentinted with generative AI capabilities. This integration empowers business analysts to construct BI dashboards using natural language commands, revolutionizing the data visualization process.

AWS has launched two free, self-paced digital courses aimed at equipping the current and future workforce with the skills needed to leverage Amazon Q’s capabilities effectively. “Amazon Q Introduction” provides a comprehensive overview of Amazon Q’s use cases and benefits, while “” introduces developers and technical audiences to Amazon Q Business’ features and use cases.
